Chuldow Self Defence Seminar Saturday 23rd August 2.30pm

Chuldow Netherton is offering a one day short seminar on the basics of self defence.  Learn the things you need to know, from the people who know ‘how’.  Real things that give real results, things that normal people can achieve easily and realistically.  You don’t need any knowledge of the martial arts, nor do you have to be physically ‘fit’ , flexible or strong to attend this seminar.  Its designed for complete beginners of all ages, shapes and sizes and will also be a good learning resource for those who deem themselves to have some experience.  You just need to be of reasonable health, between 14-100 years of age and be free to attend Netherton Village Hall in Wakefield on Saturday 23rd August, at 2.30pm.  The Seminar will last approximately two and a half hours and you will receive a self defence checklist and Certificate of attendance on successful completion of the seminar that will highlight the skills you have learnt on that day.

This is an ideal opportunity for the parents of our students to come onto the mat and have a go.  Whilst we fully realise that the discipline required to undertake the martial arts is not for everyone, we still see a lot of you 'want to have a go' when you are watching the classes.  Well this is your chance to do just that and come along and see for yourself just how simple, realistic self defence can be.  This seminar will hopefully expel some of the myths associated with self defence and show 'ordinary' people that they can defend themselves effectively in a sadly changing world where we are confronted with increasing levels of violence everyday.

PLEASE FEEL FREE TO BRING A FRIEND OR PARTNER OR RELATIVE (discounts apply too if you do*) AS WE WANT AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE TO BENEFIT FROM THIS SEMINAR, AS WE ARE INTENDING TO RUN THIS AS A 'ONE OFF EVENT

*As part of our continuing quest to bring the benefits of the martial arts into the community, Chuldow Martial Arts Black Belt Academy is heavily subsidising the cost of this seminar and Bookings of 2 or more can benefit from even bigger discounts. Because of this, we cannot accept everyone, so please email us to prebook your place on this seminar.

Archie has shown commitment to his training by attending every session this month and has shown significant improvements in his martial arts! He is a talented young man and he is gaining a good grasp of the principles we teach. Keep it up Archie.

    Sponsored Kick Final Total

Thank you to everyone who contributed in anyway to the sponsored kick, whether it was the students who broke into sweat and did as many kicks as they could in 5 minutes or to the intructors and parents who held the pads and felt the brunt of those kicks but also a massive thank you to all those who brought sponsor money. The final total for Chuldow Netherton was... £147! That is absolutely fantastic and went along towards helping the 3 young ladies to pay for their trip to the World Championships in November!

    Thank you from us all!

    Miss Moss

Student of the Month - May

Thomas Gomersall and Jonathan Sedgwick were awarded the title of Student of the Month for May.

Thomas has worked hard consistently throughout the month and attended every session. In a short space of time his skills have developed tremendously and this is due to his determination to learn and do well. His performance and attitude at the Chuldow Challenge Cup was exceptional and Thomas is well on the road to becoming a talented martial artist.

Jonathan also has shown commitment through his 100% attendance for the month of may and as well as showing a great determination in class in his first few weeks, he threw himself into the spirit of Chuldow by entering the Fight Club after just 2 weeks of training, where he did himself and us proud. He is constantly building on this attitude making him a pleasure to teach.

From now on the award of student of the month will be chosen out of both classes, making the title even tougher to achieve, so keep trying hard everyone!

    Netherton Graduations

A little bit belated but a massive congratulations to all the students from netherton who gratuated on 21st June! The standard was fantastic and you did us proud! A big well done to Cassie who graduated with disctinction - something which is very hard to achieve and is awarded to the student who goes above and beyond in terms of effort and shows the attitude of a true martial artist!

Another special congratualtions goes to Ken Varley, Ken graduated for his red belt on 11th July, slighlty later due to an injury. In the short amount of time that Ken has been training with us he has worked hard to learn the required skills and knowledge for his level. His graduation was by no means an easy one and he displayed an impressive attitude and great determination. The amount of effort that he applied to his graduation saw him pass with a well earned distinction.

    Keep it up guys!

    Miss Moss - 4th DAN!!!!

Miss Moss took her 4th dan Graduation today and after a gruelling several hour exam, which encompassed kata, advanced kata, reverse kata, high levels of physical fitness, demonstration and knowledge of weaponry plus much more, she then had to fight in a ten man fight over 10 minutes non stop and win at least 8 of her fights to pass her graduation.  Little did she know who would be the last person to step on the mat, who happened to be none other than Shian Ary Hauer himself (6th dan Wado Ryu Karate) .  Miss Moss stood up to the best of them and managed to hold her own and passed the highly coveted grade of 4th Dan.  The first person (other than Shihan Hauer) to pass this grade with Chuldow Martial Arts.

I'm sure you will all join me in passing on our congratulations to Miss Moss on this massive achievement, both on a personal level and within the martial arts itself!

Well done Miss Moss, Chuldow is very proud of you and Chuldow Netherton is very lucky to have you as our instructor.

    Mr Bedford

ps I love you sweetie, you're the best!!!

Sponsored Kick!! Friday 13th June 2008

Well the Netherton students did their bit this Friday to help Chuldow Martial Arts reach their goal of 1,000,000 (one million) kicks in one week.

The Juniors took part first and in five minutes they did a massive 1213 kicks which is absolutely fantastic!!  well done guys!

The seniors took part and combined with the instructors and the juniors we managed to do a massive 9,500 kicks, all of which was done in just five minutes which is absolutely amazing.  Miss Moss's kickboxing students from Parklands Girls High also contributed for us as well, which took the final total just over 12,506 kicks!! so you all deserve a massive round of applause and a pat on the back.

The sponsored kick ended today with the total of around 1,001,053 kicks which is a massive achievement! We will know the full total of sponsor money this week, which will be used to send the three ladies from Chuldow to the World championships which are being held in Disney World in Florida in November. So thank you so much from all of us and on Behalf of Miss Rock, Miss Watson and Miss Walker.

Tonight the Junior students of Chuldow Netherton did extremely well practising for the sponsored kick in 2 weeks time. All of the students from each Chuldow Martial Arts Black Belt Academy (Wakefield, Netherton & Sandal) will be taking part in a sponsored kick to raise money to send 3 young Instructors to Florida to compete for their country in the WKA Championships, as it is Karate and Kickboxing there is no funding available to them and these girls are still in full time education. Fantastic Franchise Graduations yet again!

    Amazing results from Sunday!!

    Hi there, Mr Bedford here,

Just a massive well done and thank you to Cassie, William and Harry from Netherton, who all attended the Weapons Seminar on Sunday 30th March.

They graduated in Nunchaku and Iaido and did fantastic, there were only four distinctions given out on the day and Netherton Students got TWO of them, so Both myself and Miss Moss are VERY PROUD of all three of you.  You were so polite and really embodied the spirit of true martial artists.  A big thank you for representing our Academy in such a way.
